Statement by Niels Troost on the Russo-Ukrainian war

I, Niels Troost, condemn Russia’s aggression and unprovoked war against Ukraine, which is senseless and unacceptable. It has lead to many innocent lives being destroyed and countless innocent victims.

Whilst Paramount Energy and Commodities DMCC, a UAE-based company that I indirectly owned but had no operational nor managerial control over, traded in Russian-origin oil for a brief period of time after Russia’s attack against Ukraine, this company ceased all such trading activities in the spring of 2023. The company has not traded in Russian-origin oil since and neither have I. Contrary to what has been falsely claimed publicly by others, I did not employ opaque ownership structures, nor did my company operate or use vessels belonging to the dark fleet. I hold no interest whatsoever, whether directly or indirectly, in any company that is involved in trading or shipping Russian oil or that supports the Russian economy in any other way. Any suggestion otherwise is false and meant to harm me and those associated with me.

I discourage anyone from engaging in the trading or shipping of Russian oil or any other activity, commercial or otherwise, that supports the Russian economy or its aggression against Ukraine. I strongly encourage those that have any influence over Russian government decision making to use their influence to persuade the Russian government to cease its aggression against Ukraine and respect the sovereignty of Ukraine.
